Lifest – Oshkosh, WI
Lifest, a Christian music festival held every summer since 1999 in Oshkosh, WI, took place this past weekend (July 9-12, 2015). With the tagline “A party with a purpose,” Lifest featured Christian artists from a wide range of different genres of music. There’s more to Lifest than just the music, however – there’s seminars, an area for vendors, skateboard ramps and a tennis court, a Ferris wheel and bouncy houses, an art area, and more! There’s also an area devoted to youth leaders, and one that’s all for kids. There’s definitely something for everyone!
There was a good mix of Christian bands and artists from every career stage at Lifest this year – from those who are just starting out to those who have been performing for years, and have long been well-established in the Christian music scene. Some of the big-name artists who were there include Matthew West, Chris Tomlin, Newsboys, and Skillet! A few of the artists who were there that are a little newer to the Christian music scene include Love & The Outcome, Citizen Way, and I Am They.
Skillet put on an incredible, crazy performance, filled with their signature, heavy rock sound that ultimately pointed back to our Savior. The performance was complete with violin players dressed in old-fashioned outfits, fog machines, and a platform for raising and lowering the performers
Newsboys gave a huge performance, with big screens covered in ever-changing, colorful graphics that fluctuated back and forth between song lyrics and images of the band members. And of course they performed their hit song “We Believe,” which was featured in the movie Do You Believe?, that came out in theaters this past spring.
Chris Tomlin put on a worshipful performance that was perfect for drawing people into spending some time in God’s presence. His many years of experience in the Christian music industry showed through in his high-quality performance.
Matthew West put on a great show, complete with sugar cookies tossed to the audience, on account of Sugar Cookie Day! He put a quirky, amusing spin on things that was perfect for getting the audience laughing. The performance had a worshipful feel, and his songs were filled with messages that were great for encouraging people in their faith!
Husband and wife duo Love & The Outcome did a great performance that was filled with energy. At various points in the show, lead singer Jodi King would play keyboard, keep time on a drum, and sing all at once, displaying an amazing amount of talent!
Lifest is a great weekend filled with music, fun, and most of all, time spent glorifying the King of Kings! It is “a party with a purpose” – the purpose of sharing the gospel and encouraging believers, which it definitely accomplished!
What about you? Do you have any Christian music festivals or performances going on where you live this summer? If so, who are you looking forward to seeing?
(At Lifest, got the chance to meet and interview many of the more well-known Christian artists, such as Francesca Battistelli, Chris Tomlin, Matthew West, Newsboys, and more. Stay tuned for some really cool stuff coming up at generationarise.com!)
