The Holy GhostHave you ever heard someone speak of the Holy Spirit – sometimes called the Holy Ghost – and wondered what they were talking about? Who is He? What is His job? How does He impact our lives today?

After Jesus rose from the dead, before returning to heaven, He told His disciples to wait for a gift God had promised. He told them that in a few days, they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4-5). In Acts 2, they received this promised gift.

If we have accepted Jesus as our Savior, then we have the Spirit of God inside of us. When we receive baptism in the Holy Spirit, it’s like what’s  inside of us comes out – through ways like speaking in tongues (a special prayer language God gives us, where we’re saying words that we didn’t come up with on our own, but that are given to us through the Holy Spirit), and other gifts of the Spirit (These gifts are mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:8-11).

Here are a few of the things the Holy Spirit does in our lives -

  • When He has come upon us, we receive power (Acts 1:8).
  • He guides us into all truth (John 16:13).
  • He teaches us all things (John 14:26).
  • He brings reminds of what Jesus said – we can read what He said in God’s Word (John 14:26).
  • He shows us things  to come (John 16:13).

Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a free gift God wants to give His children. If you ask Him for it, you will receive it!
